You know, sometimes, it's hard to smile
as you find yourself lying in a ditch
next to the road of life,
clothes torn and a cut lip.
Sometimes it's hard to smile
as the cars fly past your tattered body
making their obligatory eye contact
as they pray they don't contract
your ill luck - it can be hard to smile,
just once in a while
as the blood flows from your soul
and no one notices
or offers a bandage -
yeah, it can be hard to smile...
